Baku City Circuit Reveals Its Green Policy

Baku City Circuit (BCC) today announced the launch of its new Green Policy that will see the promoter of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix formalize its sustainability efforts with the clear aim of helping to create a better, greener future. The landmark 5th successive Formula 1 race weekend to be staged on the streets of Baku is taking place on the new date of June 5th – 7th, 2020.
The new initiative will see the entire BCC organisation launch its own green program after months of careful development and preparation from today onwards. In doing so, it echoes Formula 1’s own sustainability program that was unveiled earlier in November, including plans to have all its events be entirely sustainable by 2025.
As part of its green policy, BCC will vastly expand the use of sustainable materials at its future race weekends with a large reduction in single-use plastics and an increase in the provision of sorted bins to aid with the with the reuse and recycling of on-site waste. BCC will also use its green policy to provide opportunities for other businesses and causes in Baku to get more involved in reducing waste in the lead up to and during the F1 race weekend in Azerbaijan’s capital city – something that has also been outlined by F1 in its own plans to work with its promoters to help deliver a more sustainable future.
Indeed, an agreement has been reached with the Baku Autism Centre that will see BCC provide the charity with sorted waste that will then be delivered to relevant parties for recycling purposes, with the proceeds of this exchange going towards the Centre’s Rehabilitation Program.
Further actions taken by BCC as part of its sustainability push include the establishment of ‘Green Rules’ in the BCC office that will form an integral part of office culture and internal policy. This will involve clear and incentivized directives on saving paper, conserving energy and reducing water wastage as well as the placement of sorted bins across all BCC and BCC Academy spaces. Moreover, a Winter Garden will be created with staff encouraged to bring plants into the BCC offices.
To ensure the new agenda is fully realized, BCC has set up its own internal ‘Create Green Committee’ made up of representatives from each department of the company ensure compliance to and implementation of all ecological projects & campaigns within the program across the entire organisation.
BCC’s Executive Director, Arif Rahimov, welcomed today’s announcement: “It is no secret that the greatest threat facing mankind today is one of our own making. We at BCC therefore believe that it is incumbent on all of us to do our part to help reduce the devastating damage that climate change is inflicting upon our beautiful planet. I am fully aware that actions speak louder than words and this initiative sets a strong blueprint for our organisation to not only Think Green but to Act Green from this day forward. We urge all our friends and partners in the F1 community – as well as all F1 fans – to join the fight against waste and do everything in our powers to ensure a brighter future for the next generation."
Tickets for the 5th running of the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix are on sale now, with special early bird offers on 4-day tickets available until January 15th, 2020 at 20% discount.
In addition to the discounted 4-day ticket offering, special ‘Junior’ tickets for children aged 2-15 will also be made available to families traveling to the event together. These can only be purchased in conjunction with an adult ticket and only in the 4-day format.
Daily Roaming Tickets will also be on offer at full price to those preferring to watch the action from different locations on the track on various standing areas and podiums.
Discounted 4-day adult ticket prices range from US$160 – US$560 while discounted 4-day Junior tickets range from US$110 – US$390.
