ABC has every intention of pursuing new IndyCar TV deal
All sports programs that air on ABC are managed and produced by ESPN |
There has been a lot of speculation in the media that because ABC/ESPN laid off several of its motorsports on-air talent, including Allen Bestwick and Dr. Jerry Punch, they were getting out of the motorsports business and would not pursue the new IndyCar deal that is currently under negotiations.
AutoRacing1.com reached out to ESPN to clarify their intent and received this response from an ESPN spokesperson:
"While we do not comment on active negotiations, our company has had a long and great relationship with INDYCAR, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 that dates back to 1965 and continues through this season and next. We certainly hope it moves forward into the future."
So there you have it, ABC/ESPN will only be out of broadcasting the Indy 500 and other races if IndyCar mandates a single network and ABC/ESPN do not win the bid.
Stay tuned……..
