Ferrari and Mercedes to leave F1 for IndyCar
Totem Wolff had it with the whiners in F1 |
In a shot sure to be heard around the world, Ferrari and Mercedes have decided to leave F1 and join IndyCar.
Behind the move is IndyCar's decision to sign a TV deal with NBC and NBCSN. Apparently Ferrari and Mercedes were very upset that 100 million people were seeing their cars on TV during races and they prefer NBCSN where only 0.5 million will see their cars race each event.
The feeling was that 100 million viewers around the world seeing their cars dominate every race was not good for their image so they prefer the IndyCar TV deal where their product will be seen by almost no one.
Because there will no longer be any IndyCar international TV distribution with the NBC deal, only 0.5 million will see an IndyCar broadcast on NBCSN in the USA. Globally IndyCar will become invisible and that is what Mercedes and Ferrari wanted, i.e. dominate every race and not have to worry about pissing off too many people.
Mercedes team boss Totem Wolf confirmed that IndyCar's small TV viewership was the impetus behind their move.
"We were getting too many complaints from F1 fans that we were winning almost every race, so we had to take this action and get out of the international eye. At IndyCar we can dominate in peace."
Ferrari President Maxillian Marchionne had a slightly different reason for the move.
"That snot nose Jean Toad dared us to leave F1, so we did. That outta wipe that grin off that frog's face."
