Jakarta Formula E race looking for a new venue
Was the circuit not viable or the race hemorrhaging red ink? |
One Formula E race has already been scrapped from the calendar and another could now be in doubt. The Jakarta ePrix is looking for a new venue after the original was deemed not viable.
The Formula E season is only three races old (two in Saudi Arabia) but it has already faced some hiccups. The Sanya ePrix was recently cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak meaning the calendar has been cut from 14 to 13 races. The race in Indonesia meanwhile, was set to take place around Jakarta's National Monument but a spokesperson confirmed that they were looking for new options.
“Formula E and the Jakarta Organizing Committee will continue with preparations for the event based on the change in circumstances," the spokesperson added.
The Jakarta ePrix is sandwiched between Seoul ePrix and the Berlin ePrix.
Stoffel Vandoorne leads the Formula E Drivers' Championship despite never finishing higher than third. His consistency has seen him pip Alexander Sims and Sam Bird to the top spot.
