IndyCar eyes race at Circuit of Americas
One reason why COTA is so successful for F1 is the big name talent like Bruno Mars, Brittany Spears and Taylor Swift they bring in. Will the promoter do this for an IndyCar race? |
Adam Stern tweets that IndyCar has had discussions with COTA about the possibility of hosting a race there as soon as 2019, per sources, but they stressed that the talks were preliminary and that such a move would only ever happen if Texas Motor Speedway and its dwindling crowds first decided on its own to opt out of its deal.
The problem with Texas Motor Speedway is that the massive grandstands during the IndyCar race are largely empty making IndyCar look like a complete and utter loser of a series.
This scares away potential 1) new fans, 2) new sponsors and 3) new manufacturers – three strikes and you're out.
COTA is a great facility and the IndyCars would race well there, but we suspect SMI will try to hold onto the TMS race.
