IndyCar to go nearly dark globally
The above darkness is what IndyCar fans internationally will see when they turn on their TV sets in 2019 looking to watch a race |
Whereas ESPN International managed the TV distribution globally for IndyCar before, they are now out of the picture with the new NBC TV deal, so it's lights out for IndyCar on the majority of the planet.
Sports Business Daily's Adam Stern tweeted @IndyCar is in talks with @DAZNglobal (who?) streaming service about a media-rights deal that would likely include multiple regions globally beyond just the previously reported streaming deal in Spain……per a person familiar with the talks.
These streaming service deals that fans have to pay for (DAZN is $14.99 per month just for boxing) should amount to about 10,000 or 15,000 viewers globally per race. Add that to the minuscule NBCSN TV ratings in the USA and the resulting exposure for sponsors is negligible.
Contrast and compare that to the TV deals Liberty Media does for F1 in all the countries where each race is watched by upwards of 100 million people collectively.
When is Liberty Media going to buy IndyCar so the series can grow to its fullest potential?
