Supercars News: Cam Waters wins Race 1 and 2 in Sydney
After winning the Race 1 Sprint on Friday night, Cam Waters stole victory from Broc Feeney in the final meters of an epic Saturday night Sydney showdown that produced one of the closest finishes in Supercars history.
Race 1
Monster Energy Ford’s Cam Waters is off to the perfect start in Supercars new era, after a start to finish win in the opening Repco Supercars Championship win of 2025 at the Thrifty Sydney 500.
The 30-year-old Mildura native started from pole and recorded his 16th career race (his first ever in Sydney) with an emphatic 17-second start to finish win in front of fellow Ford Mustang drivers Chaz Mostert who started eighth and Waters’ teammate Thomas Randle who rounded out a 1-2-3 for the blue oval.

Fellow Ford driver kiwi Matt Payne made it a 1-4 Mustang result after a great battle with Randle for third spot.
The best of the Chevrolet Camaro drivers was defending Supercars Champion Will Brown who finished in fifth position, after starting from 11th place on the grid.
Brown’s Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Broc Feeney, who started on the front row and was in contention early, had his hopes dashed after a rear tyre punctured while he was near the lead mid-race. Feeney recovered to finish in 14th position.
The race started with some intense door-to-door action between new Ford recruit, 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki and Payne saw both drivers on the limit through early corners.
In his first race for the Shell V-Power Team, Kostecki finished 6th behind Brown.
Waters 17-second win over Mostert was emphatic and sets an intriguing scene for tomorrow night’s opening 200km race of the year.
Under Supercars’ new formats introduced for 2025 where the Championship winner will be decided via a Finals’ Series, there will be no Saturday or Sunday practice.

After 52 laps and 200km, Monster Energy Ford’s Cam Waters won it by just 0.03s after a perfectly executed move on the final run down the main straight saw him snatch the win from the Red Bull Camaro of Broc Feeney, defending Supercars Champion Will Brown finished just another 0.16 back in third.

Waters and Broc Feeney had a late-race clash that, in colloquial terms resulted in the refs saying play-on, to go on and battle door to door and be split by nothing in a drag race to the line in Race 2 at the Thrifty Sydney 500 – Opening Round.
Waters spun Feeney when they collided on Lap 49, and then the Monster Energy Mustang driver tried to redress his position and give it back to Feeney.
