It’s the third pole of Briscoe’s career.  #2 Penske Ford driver Austin Cindric will start 2nd with a speed of 182.463 mph.

Only Briscoe and Cindric’s starting positions are locked in.  the remainder of the grid will be set during Thursday Night’s 150-mile qualifying duel races.

Ryan Preece, Joey Logano and Josh Berry completed the top five in qualifying while Denny Hamlin, Austin Dillon, Christopher Bell, Ty Dillon and Kyle Larson rounded out the top 10.

Cup Series champions Martin Truex Jr. (181. 302 mph) and Jimmie Johnson (180.785 mph) were the two open-car drivers to lock into the Daytona 500 on speed.

Justin Allgaier, Hélio Castroneves, Corey LaJoie, Anthony Alfredo, Chandler Smith, BJ McLeod and JJ Yeley will battle for the final two open spots in the “Great American Race” in the duel races.

Daytona 500 polesitter Chase Briscoe

Chase Briscoe makes the move to Joe Gibbs Racing this season. In your first start in this 19 car, you’re also going to give Toyota their first pole in the Daytona 500. How good does that feel?

CHASE BRISCOE: A great way to start our season. Unbelievable way to start off the year. Unbelievable way to start off with Toyota. To be able to be the guy to deliver them the first anything when they’ve already accomplished so much is pretty cool.

Man, to think I’m going to start on the front row or on the pole of the great American race with ultimately the great American brand of Bass Pro Shops is unbelievable.

Can’t thank Coach Gibbs enough, the entire Joe Gibbs Racing organization. The whole off-season everybody kept telling me the focus was trying to qualify better at superspeedways. That’s something I really struggled at last year. For our 19 group to come here and sit on the pole at the biggest race of the year is pretty special.

Can’t believe it. Super appreciative of this opportunity with Bass Pro, Toyota, Joe Gibbs. Unbelievable way to start our season. Hopefully, we can carry it on now.

You have to worry about the duels tomorrow. What are you going to be looking for out of it tomorrow night?

CHASE BRISCOE: I don’t know if this changes our approach, if we try to just lay back down or what. Truthfully, I would like to race and at least feel my car out.

It’s hard to ever know what you have in practice. I felt like in practice, my car was really, really good. To go out there in qualifying and do the lap we did, man, I guess I was right.

Curious to see how it’s going to race. I feel like our car definitely has speed, it’s just a matter if it’s going to race good.

Talk to James and the guys to see what the approach is tomorrow night. Good to start up front and determine our own destiny.

Outside Front-Row Daytona 500 Starter Austin Cindric

Austin, you’re starting on the front row in The Great American Race. You’ve won it before, but how special is it to start on the front row?

AUSTIN CINDRIC: It’s obviously a huge credit to the guys on the 2 car, building a really fast race car, a lot of fast Fords in the field. Really cool.

Starting pole would be better. Chase and I haven’t compared race results in our entire career, just take jabs at each other for qualifying results. This one is going to sting for a while.

Congratulations to him and Coach and those guys. Pretty good to start on the front row with one of my good friends. All in all, a great box checked for the start of this week. I think every single part of this weekend is important to setting up with an opportunity to win this race on Sunday. That’s another one, pit selection, obviously controlling your destiny at the start of the race.

We’ll try to do the best we can to learn about our car tomorrow night. Yeah, good start.
