IMSA Rolex 24 Hour 9: Nick Tandy in #7 Penske Porsche out front

At the 9-Hour mark of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the #7 Penske Porsche driven by Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, Laurens Vanthoor was out front by 5-seconds over Jack Aitken in the #31 Cadillac.

The #24 BMW driven by Dries Vanthoor ran 3rd, right on the tail of the #31 Cadillac.

The #6 Penske Porsche ran 4th, 8-seconds back with Mathieu Jaminet at the wheel, while the #10 Wayne Taylor Cadillac driven by Filipe Albuquerque rounded out the top-5 21-seconds behind.

The #40 WTR Cadillac, #2 United ORECA, and #9 Pfaff Lamborghini have officially retired.

Six cars were involved in a major accident during the eighth hour of the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Louis Deletraz in the #40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R ran out of talent and lost control exiting turn two, twitched and spun off into the barrier off to his right. His momentum carried him back across the track.

Nick Boulle couldn’t avoid the stationary Cadillac and struck Deletraz, before Chris Cumming hit both the #40 and the #2 United Autosports ORECA of Boulle.

Taking evasive action the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini ran into the side of the #48 Paul Miller Racing BMW of Max Hesse.

But that’s not all. The #8 Tower Motorsports ORECA LMP2 of Sebastien Bourdais suffered damage in the incident after getting brushed by the other LMP2 cars.

In LMP2, AO Racing’s Jonny Edgar had the #99 in front, 8 seconds ahead of the #18 ERA Motorsport’s Oreca driven by Paul-Loup Chatin.

Ford Multimatic Motorsports’ Frederic Vervisch continues to run up front in GTD PRO, in the #65 Ford Mustang GT3. The #69 GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG GT3 runs 2nd, Laurin Heinrich is now third in the #77 AO Racing Porsche – with Mike Rockenfeller in the #64 Ford in fourth.

Heart of Racing Team’s Mattia Drudi remains at the front in GTD, about ten seconds ahead of the #78 Forte Racing Lamborghini of Misha Goikhberg
