With Brickyard 400 moving to July 5th, will IndyCar season end at Indy?
Can it really be happening? |
On the 2020 NASCAR schedule announced today, Indianapolis Motor Speedway moves to the cornerstone spot on the NASCAR schedule – the July 4th weekend, which previously was occupied by Daytona International Speedway. Daytona will instead host the regular-season finale on Aug. 29. The Brickyard 400 (Big Machine Vodka 400 ) will run July 5th in 2020 rather than in September as it did last year and this year.
Editor's Note: That opens the door for IndyCar to finally do what is right starting in 2020 – end its season on the Indy oval – a 400 miler – in September – rather than at Laguna Seca and it's sparse crowd that will make IndyCar look like a complete loser.
We all know the fabulous show the IndyCars put on at the Indy oval. It is spectacular and the race usually comes down to the last lap. It showcases IndyCar in the best possible light, as it should be as a season finale.
While they won't pack the grandstands like they do for the Indy 500, a crowd of at least 150,000 can be expected, and build from there as years go on.
Could this be one of the two game-changing announcements IndyCar expects to make in May?
