IHRA News: Series Revamps Division Realignments to help teams
Racers and track partners have spoken, and the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) apparently has listened.
#IHRAReturnToGlory is more than a hashtag. It’s a commitment to work together with track partners, marketing partners and racers to make the IHRA the best drag racing organization in North America.
“Shortly after we announced plans to realign and consolidate some of our divisions for 2025, I received several e-mails, messages and phone calls from racers and track partners alike. As President of the IHRA, I will always strive to do what’s best for our racers, track partners and marketing partners regardless of the outside noise. We were able to make changes to have a solid division lineup and a solid schedule for our Team Finals and World Finals for 2025,” said IHRA President Kenny Nowling.
The biggest changes occur in Division 1 which now includes neighboring tracks from Division 9. In fact, the IHRA Division 1 Team Finals are scheduled at Darlington Dragway from Oct. 2-4, 2025.
We appreciate how closely some tracks and racers identify with certain divisions. That was the case with Division 2. The IHRA D2 Team Finals will be held Sept. 11-13 at Holly Springs Motorsports Park, which will again serve as host for the IHRA World Finals a month later.
For other tracks, it’s better to be in new divisions. It cuts down on travel time and costs for I57 Dragstrip which joins Division 2.
IHRA Division 3 Team Finals will remain at Quaker City Motorsports Park on Sept. 18-20. A couple of former Division 1 tracks — Capitol Raceway in Maryland and Custom T’s Motorsports Park in Virginia — are now a part of the Division 3 roster.
Also, the Southwestern tracks will retain the Division 4 name. Many of you have shared your passion for this division and its rich history. The IHRA Division 4 Team Finals are scheduled Sept. 25-27 at Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas.
We addressed concerns with Division 5 as the lineup remains close to last season. A notable exception is Kentucky Dragway now moving to this division. It’s an example of making things better for the racers. The Team Finals site Sept. 4-6 at Muncie Dragway is two hours closer to Kentucky Dragway than where racers traveled in 2024.
There was simply no way to avoid a couple of smaller divisions. An overarching goal was to make it easier to attend an IHRA Team Finals event. Division 6 will have just three tracks with the Team Finals on Aug. 21-23 at Humboldt County Dragway. Division 7 features three California drag strips and our Hawaiian track partner with Team Finals at Mendota Raceway Park on dates to be determined.
We wrap up with Division 8 where Rocket City Dragway will serve as the host for the IHRA Team Finals on Oct. 9-11. Again, the realignment creates better travel and a more even distribution of tracks. For example, Music City Raceway is nearly two hours closer to its Team Finals site than 2024 when it was in a huge division with 12 other tracks.
Thank you again for your passion as we work towards the IHRA’s Return To Glory. The lineups for each division are below. More detailed looks at each division will be on IHRA.com and our Facebook page over the coming days.
