IMSA News: ‘American Speed’ movie about Whittington Brothers
Amazon MGM Studios has landed “American Speed,” a movie that will see Tom Holland and Austin Butler star as Whittington racecar-driving brothers.
Academy Award-winning producer Charles Roven (“Oppenheimer”) is attached to produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner, alongside RD Whittington and Douglas Banker. Atlas Entertainment’s Ryan Sanak will executive produce.
Dan Wiedenhaupt (“Alpha”) is writing the script, which is based on the true story of the Whittington brothers — three drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.
Deadline was first to report the news.
