NASCAR News: Alex Bowman disqualified after Charlotte Cup race
Following the disqualification of Alex Bowman from the Bank of America Roval 400 on Sunday over the post-race weight of his car, the team is expected to appeal.
Hendrick Motorsports released a statement on Sunday evening concerning the disqualification.
“We are working to understand the issue and will make a decision Monday about whether to submit an appeal,” Hendrick Motorsports wrote.
One potential avenue of appeal is that it appeared an object came loose from Bowman’s car during one of the turns in the race. Dashcam footage from another driver showed what appeared to be a significant piece dislodging from Bowman’s car over a bump in the course.
It’s possible that piece was enough to cause the weight discrepancy that got Bowman disqualified from the race, earning a P48 finish and therefore falling out of the top eight of the playoff standings on points.

If the Alex Bowman disqualification stands, Joey Logano will instead advance to the round of eight in the playoffs on points.
“I didn’t crash but that was the hardest I’ve ever hit anything in my life,” Bowman said after the race. “It’s just a car thing, right? These things have big rub blocks underneath them and when they come down, you hit that and it’s really solid. How I was following the 1 and someone else, I couldn’t see and was too far to the left and kind of just launched over that. My mistake. Caused that for sure. Glad we didn’t tear anything up and on to the next one.
“I hit hard enough to tear a lot of stuff up’ and as it turned out, he might have.
