IndyCar News: Hy-Vee Scales Back IndyCar Involvement
In what can only be described as a major blow to the series, Hy-Vee, a supermarket chain in nine Midwestern states based in West Des Moines, Iowa, confirmed to Bruce Martin of Forbes.com that the company would not be sponsoring any team in IndyCar next year, and was also ending its money-losing sponsorship of the revived IndyCar race at The Milwaukee Mile next season.
“We appreciate the partnership we have had over the last several years with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team,” Hy-Vee Senior Vice President of Communications Tina Potthoff told Martin.
“We will no longer be sponsoring a car in the IndyCar Series. Instead, we are shifting our focus to the Iowa races where we are the presenting sponsor.
“We are no longer sponsoring the Milwaukee race. We are just concentrating on the races in Iowa.”
Hy-Vee sponsored the No. 45 Honda at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing featuring driver Christian Lundgaard of Denmark. But he announced in June that he would be moving over to Arrow McLaren in 2025 and has since left the team.
