IndyCar: WWTR Grid Penalties
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES officials have announced a nine-position starting grid penalty for the entries of Scott Dixon, No 9 Chip Ganassi Racing, Alex Palou, No 10 Chip Ganassi Racing, Katherine Legge, No 51 Dale Coyne Racing and Felix Rosenquist, No 60 Meyer Shank Racing for unapproved engine changes following the July 21st race on the streets of Toronto.
The teams were in violation of the following:
Rule 16.1.2.3.2 A fifth Engine is eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points if a full-season entrant has completed the Full Season Entrant Engine Mileage with its first four Engines. Otherwise, a fifth or more Engine does not earn Engine Manufacturer points and will be considered an unapproved engine change-out.
According to Rule 16.1.6.1.2, the penalty is a nine positions at oval events and will be served at the next event.
The teams are required to put 2,500 miles on each of the four yearly leased engines before changing them.
