F1 News: Hamilton’s engineer refuses to move with him to Ferrari
Although Lewis Hamilton has worked with his Mercedes F1 race engineer Peter Bonnington ever since he joined Mercedes in 2013, Bonnington has no desire to move to Ferrari with Hamilton in 2025.
We reported recently that Mercedes has already signed F2 driver Italian Kimi Antonelli to replace Hamilton in 2025, and we await the formal announcement. Still yet to turn 18, he’ll be the youngest driver on the grid, with just half a season of underwhelming Formula 2 action under his belt.
Mercedes, thinks Antonelli could be the next Max Verstappen, which is likely a stretch of Toto Wolff’s imagination.
According to Formu1a.uno, Bonnington is no longer considering a move to Ferrari. Hamilton tried to convince him, but he’s opted to stay with Mercedes and be the engineer for Antonelli.
Apparently, Bonnington watched Antonelli in action in his private testing program for Mercedes and was satisfied with what he saw.
