IndyCar News: Nashville promoter says race better on oval

Construction of the new Nissan Stadium has forced the season finale of the 2024 IndyCar Series to a different location this year: the Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Last Wednesday, four drivers and their crews conducted test runs in preparation for the main event: the championship race, set for September 15.

“The Nashville Superspeedway is a plug-and-play,” said Scott Borchetta (pictured), who oversees operations for the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix.

IndyCar races have not been held at the speedway since 2008. Borchetta admitted that the change in location has been a “mammoth effort,” but it also brought new perks. An oval track will allow drivers to go faster and turn less. Fans themselves will also be treated to a smoother, more exciting experience.

“You can see the entire track from the grandstand, from pretty much any seat,” Borchetta explained. “It’s very easy to navigate the pits. It’s very easy to navigate traffic. It’s very easy to get in and out of here. Parking is great. From a fan experience point of view, it’s really — arguably — better.”
