Formula 1 News: Oscar Piastri was driving with a broken rib
Australian McLaren F1 driver Oscar Piastri has been racing and winning, while nursing a fractured rib.
While his rib heals in the summer break, Piastri posted an image on social media showing he had suffered a fracture in his left rib.
The time stamp is marked July 8, one day after he finished fourth in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Two weeks later, Piastri took his maiden grand prix win in Hungary, presumably still with the fractured rib.
“First part of the season done. First GP victory. First broken bone. Rib’s enjoying the break,” Piastri posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The Australian backed up his maiden win in F1 with a second-place finish at the Belgium Grand Prix.
He is fourth in the drivers’ championship off the back of recent performances, just 10 points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in third and 32 points teammate Lando Norris.
Piastri has enjoyed a terrific second year in F1.
While teammate Norris received plenty of plaudits for his performances at the start of the year, the highly rated Australian has closed the points deficit on his more experienced partner.
There are 10 race weekends left in the 2024 season, starting with the Dutch Grand Prix from August 23-25.
