IndyCar: Conor Daly to Replace Jack Harvey in One Step 250

Jack Harvey, the driver of the No 18 Invst Honda for Dale Coyne Racing, has been experiencing some back pain since the Mid-Ohio is going to sit out today’s One Step 250 at Iowa Speedway.  His owner, Dale Coyne, phoned Conor Daly on Friday night and asked him to substitute for Harvey in the races this weekend.

Daly, who has not run an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race since the Indy 500,  would have driven in the HomeFront 250 last night but needed to complete a refresher course before IndyCar would let him drive.

Autoracing1 spoke with Daly after his refresher course at 9:00 am today.

“Dale (Coyne) called me, and I called my step-dad, Doug (Boyles), and then Doug called Roger (Penske) to ask if there was a seat on his plane.  Thankfully, Roger was kind enough to let me sit on his plane on Saturday morning to get over here.  No other planning.”

“There is a lot to catch up on.  The hybrid system is obviously new.  I was working on using the button very often.  It is not something I have done before, an unknown.  It’s a nice system that worked well.  I am behind, but this team has done a great job with the car.”

“I am going to go out and try to do all the laps and get some points for the team.  We have no idea how the race will play out.  Could be little passing like last night’s race.  So I don’t know.  We will see.”
