Formula 1 News: Mick’s mother Corinna appears at Austrian GP

(GMM) Mick Schumacher’s mother is making a rare visit to the Austrian GP this weekend. As outlined by the local newspaper Kleine Zeitung, Corinna Schumacher – wife of stricken F1 legend Michael Schumacher – “normally isolates herself from the public”.

But Mrs Schumacher walked into the Red Bull Ring on both Thursday and Friday with her son Mick, 25, who is in the running to return to the F1 grid next year as Pierre Gasly’s teammate at Alpine.

Corinna is not known to be deeply involved in the hands-on management of Mick’s career, but she does know Alpine’s new executive advisor Flavio Briatore well from his days as team boss at Enstone-based Benetton – where Michael won the first two of his seven world championships in the mid 90s.

Corinna Schumacher mum of Mick Schumacher (GER), and wife of Michael Schumacher, during the Austrian GP, Spielberg 27-30 June 2024, Formula 1 World championship 2024.

“Driver market interests for her son are one of the possible reasons for her presence,” agreed the authoritative Italian sports daily, La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mick will test a two-year-old Alpine at Paul Ricard next week, in what is being billed by the media as a ‘shootout’ with Jack Doohan for the 2025 race seat alongside Gasly.
