F1 Rumor: Merc to benchmark Antonelli against Mick Schumacher
To make him look good, Andrea Kimi Antonelli Mercedes will reportedly use Mick Schumacher as a benchmark, who did not set the world on fire at Haas.
Antonelli will drive the 2022 Mercedes F1 car at Silverstone next week in a private test, Auto Motor Und Sport reports.
And he will share the W13 with Schumacher, Mercedes’ reserve and test bench warmer.
It represents a huge opportunity for Antonelli to prove his worth for a F1 race seat by outpacing a mediocre at best former F1 driver.
Antonelli, the 17-year-old Italian, has emerged as a key option for Toto Wolff as he seeks to replace Lewis Hamilton, who will go to Ferrari in 2025.
Despite his youth and inexperience, Antonelli was rumored to have already turned some impressive times in previous testing with Mercedes.
Putting him directly up against Schumacher in the same car on the same track and if he beats Schumacher, will prove to everyone that Schumacher’s F1 days are over.
If Schumacher is faster, it may prove that the young Italian may not be so great after all.
Will be interesting to see the result
