It is rather curious that Adrian Newey chose to stand with the Andrettis while the USA National Anthem was played on the grid for the 2024 Miami GP.

The latest Adrian Newey rumor making the rounds after Sunday’s Miami GP was that the Andretti-Cadillac team was courting Newey to come work for their proposed F1 team.
–by Mark Cipolloni–
There is some history between the two.
Newey was Mario Andretti’s race engineer in IndyCar in 1987 when Andretti would have won the Indy 500 by 2 laps if a valve did not break with 23 laps to go. The two were a formidable duo that year.
The Andrettis were seen in deep conversation with Newey on the grid before the Miami GP, and one has to believe they extended an offer to talk further should he decide to come back to F1 in 2025.
The Andretti design facility is at Silverstone in England, and Newey would not have to relocate to Italy for Ferrari, should he be leaning that way.
But at his age, is Newey up to getting involved with a new team at the ground floor?
It would be an opportunity to attract some top talent and set up the design team the way he envisions.
Andretti can offer Newey a larger salary than any other existing team because they are not officially on the grid yet and do not come under the cost cap until they are on the grid.
We doubt it will happen, but what a story it would be if it did.
