Formula 1 Rumor: Mercedes wants to pay Verstappen $160M/year (Update)

Like we told you, most of the rumors around the Red Bull team and their personnel are fake.

Toto Wolff denies rumors of meeting with the Verstappen’s after Miami

Asked about it at an event in New York on Monday night for team partner WhatsApp, with a race car emoji projected onto the Empire State Building lit up in green, Wolff told Reuters Television: “No, that’s one of the rumors.

“People make up meetings, make up what’s happening with the drivers but these things should be behind closed doors and everything that’s been out there was not really the right thing.”

The rumors around the Red Bull F1 team, are almost all fake, but they just keep on coming. The latest is that Mercedes is rumored to be going all-in for Max Verstappen.

If the rumor is to be believed, started by F1 Insider, to demonstrate their seriousness, key figures from the Mercedes F1 team shareholders, including Toto Wolff, CEO Ola Källenius, and Sir James Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS and football club Man United, will be present at the negotiations with Max, his father and his manager after the Miami GP.

Sir James Ratcliffe is one of the wealthiest individuals in the UK, with a fortune exceeding $17 billion. Mercedes is rumored to be prepared to offer Max Verstappen an astonishing $160 million PER YEAR.

Additionally, they propose a long-term ambassadorial role, extending beyond Verstappen’s active racing career.

There’s even the possibility that Verstappen may bring along certain engineers and even Helmut Marko.

Furthermore, a survey conducted among Mercedes employees reveals that over 90% are eager to see Max Verstappen join Mercedes as their future F1 champion.

Verstappen is better than Hamilton, hence the bigger offer

While Mercedes was not willing to meet Lewis Hamilton’s demands, so he is leaving for Ferrari, Mercedes is willing to offer Max Verstappen far more because they feel he is even better than Hamilton.

Toto Wolff can’t stand the fact that Verstappen is destroying his current Mercedes drivers [Hamilton and Russell]  and realizes Verstappen is the driver that can turn his team around.

Age 26: Hamilton had 17 F1 wins

Age 26: Verstappen has 58 F1 wins and that number will be much higher before he turns 27.

Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff
Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff is begging Verstappen to drive for his team. Rumor has it, that he may be winning to get on his knees and kiss Verstappen’s boots.

“Max always goes for the fastest setup,” Dr. Helmut Marko told OE24.

“Of course, this isn’t always easy to drive.

“When a car is fast, it is restless and toxic. This is where the driving skills come into play.

“That’s why Max is always the fastest in the qualifying sessions.”

Verstappen’s own future remains up for discussion, with Mercedes’ Toto Wolff irking Red Bull last week in China by implying the F1 champion is on the market.

Christian Horner responded by insisting Verstappen is unavailable.

He reportedly has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if Marko also exits.

“Max will drive where he has the best car, and he has that at Red Bull,” Marko insisted.

“Nothing else is on the horizon.”
