Formula 1 News: Pirelli “soft” tires for Imola, Monaco and Montreal
Pirelli has informed the teams and the FIA that the same selection of compounds will be used for all three Grands Prix of Emilia-Romagna, Monaco and Canada: the C3 as P Zero White hard, C4 as P Zero Yellow medium and C5 as P Zero Red soft.
Therefore, the choices are identical to last year because the compounds themselves have remained the same. Actually, this trio of the softest compounds was never put to the test in Imola last year, as the event was cancelled at the last minute, because of flooding in the Romagna area.
In 2022, the only time the 18” Pirellis have been used at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, the available compounds were the C2 as Hard, the C3 as Medium and the C4 as Soft. This year’s event, from 17 to 19 May, will reveal if the softer approach will produce a wider range of strategy choices than in past years, on a track where overtaking is notoriously rather complicated.
For Monaco and Montreal, the softer compounds were the obvious choice given the smooth asphalt to be found at these two street circuits, and this approach has been tried and tested over the past few years.
