IndyCar: Saturday Morning Report from Thermal Club

Today is the second day of testing for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the beautiful Thermal Club. Temperatures will be at least ten degrees cooler today, in the lower 70s, with a wind advisory in effect. Possible gusts of 50 – 65 MPH are expected.

Tires have become a concern, with four more hours of testing before the highly anticipated qualifying sessions late this afternoon. Kyffin Simpson, the rookie at Ganassi Racing, turned the most laps yesterday at 70. His teammate, Alex Palou, only did 39 and was the fastest in both sessions.

After yesterday’s final practice session, Will Power voiced his tire concerns to the media.

“Very difficult to tell with the tire situation. Like if you ran in the heat of the day, the track was pretty bad, but you certainly got a good idea of where your balance was that.”

“We’ll see tomorrow. I think a lot of people saved tires. I think the most telling session will be session four, see where we stack up.”

“Our group is stacked in qualifying, I just want to say. It’s like bloody. There’s a tough group. There really are no tough groups anymore. They’re all tough. It’s almost
rigged, they picked it.”

The morning practice session is scheduled for 9 – 11 a.m. PDT, followed by the afternoon practice from 1-3 p.m. PDT.
