IndyCar: Sunday Morning Report from the GP of St Pete

Good morning from a partly cloudy sky over Tampa Bay.  The weather app we use said it would be breezy and not hot, with some clouds for today’s IndyCar race.  The temperature will be in the low 70s today, a good afternoon for racing.

The practice and qualifying sessions this weekend have shown that any team can win a race in IndyCar.  The NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers are always commenting on how they love the competition and it is the most challenging series of racing anywhere because of all the different disciplines.

Team Penske has won this race eleven times out of 14 starts.  There is a good chance Josef Newgarden will lead the pack from the start to the finish line.

The series has instituted a new rule on street and road courses.  There will be a restart zone where the drivers can accelerate when the green flag is waved,  but maintain their position until they pass the restart line prior to the start/finish line.  This should give the drivers a better chance of making a move under a green flag without taking out several cars in the first turn.

This morning will go fast due to an early race start time.  Warm-up for the IndyCars is scheduled for 9:10 am for 30 minutes.

The 100-lap race will start at 12:30 pm today. NBC and Peacock broadcasts will start at Noon ET.

AR1 will keep you updated on the race day events.
