IndyCar News: Herta tops Firestone GP of St. Pete Practice 2

Colton Herta turned a lap of 1m00.1331s in his #26 Andretti Honda to top the 2nd practice session for the NTT IndyCars on the streets of St. Petersburg.

Herta was 0.25s up on Josef Newgarden in his #2 Penske Chevy and 0.28s up on Will Power in the #12 Penske Chevy.

Behind Power in third, Pato O’Ward took fourth for Arrow McLaren with 1m00.5789s, four tenths off the pace, ahead of Romain Grosjean on his debut for Juncos Hollinger Racing, VeeKay, Kirkwood, McLaughlin and the Chip Ganassi Racing cars of Scott Dixon and Marcus Armstrong. Rosenqvist slipped to 11^th.

Kirkwood hit the wall at Turn 2, damaging the right-rear corner of his car and putting him out of the session.

“It’s just the nature of street course racing, I had my left-side tyres ready but not my rights. As soon as I got to the first right-hander I tapped the wall at 120mph.

“We were fast out of the gate, so I set that time on old tires with a flat spot, so we should be good for qualifying.”
