Good morning from an overcast St Petersburg.  The INDY NXT by Firestone race cars are practicing already.  The temperatures are in the low 70s and are not expected to change much today.  Rain is expected tonight in the area so we should not be using the threaded Firestone tires today.

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers will take to the track today at 9:35 am for an hour of practice time.  Today’s session will be a normal session with all cars allowed on track during  the hour.   The session is guaranteed 45 minutes of green flag time.

The Firestone Fast Six Qualifying is scheduled for 2 pm ET.   The field is divided into two groups based on practice times.  Each group goes out to set their times.  Then the top six in each of the two groups go out for a 10-minute session with the twelve cars.   Then the fastest six from that group do one more session and that determines the first six starting positions and the pole sitter.

Stay tuned to AR1 for more updates from St Pete.
