ARCA: Van Gisbergen makes progress in first Superspeedway test

While William Sawalich led the way in Saturday’s final day of ARCA preseason testing at Daytona, all eyes were on Shane van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen (SVG), an Australian Supercars star trying to make a career in NASCAR, is running a myriad of races this season in ARCA and NASCAR Xfinity Series, to get ready for an eventual career in the Cup series.

Sawalich, who will split time in JGR’s No. 18 Toyota this season with Tanner Gray because he is not yet old enough to run the whole schedule, posted an average speed of 182.489 mph.

Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen completed a solid test and was 12th fastest.

Van Gisbergen will have to race in the ARCA event to get approved for the Xfinity Series race. That means double duty. Part of that process is the pre-race practice sessions.

Another newcomer, IndyCar driver Marco Andretti, was 8th quick on Day 1.
