Carrie Schreiner

F1 Academy: Carrie Schreiner chosen as Sauber driver

There is a new addition to Sauber’s list of young drivers, as they have signed Carrie Schreiner for the 2024 F1 Academy series.

The 25-year-old German driver will be representing the team in the second season of the all-female series, racing one of the Campos Racing entries in our team’s colors.

Born in Völklingen, Germany, Schreiner discovered her love for motorsport from a young age, making her debut in the ADAC Kart Masters, Germany’s strongest karting series, in 2011. The first of many successes came in 2012, when Carrie clinched the X30 Junior championship title – the first and, so far, only female driver to triumph in the category.

The switch to single-seater racing came in 2015, when Carrie competed in the German and British Formula 4 championships, achieving several Top Ten finishes.

A new challenge saw the talented German making the switch to GT racing in 2017, competing in several championships and races, including the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, ADAC GT Masters, 24 Hours of Nürburgring, Porsche Sports Cup, and making a guest appearance in a Formula E testing session in 2018.

That same year, Carrie claimed the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East crown in the Pro-Am category; another success came in 2021, when she triumphed in her class at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

A further step forward in the German’s successful motorsport career came in 2023, when Carrie was among the 15 drivers lining up on the grid for the inaugural F1 Academy season – where she drove to victory in Race 2 in Zandvoort.

Now, with the learnings from her rookie season and her already vast motorsport experience providing a solid backing, Carrie prepares to tackle her second year in the series, aiming for the coveted F1 Academy crown. As part of her pre-season preparations, Carrie will compete in the 2024 Formula 4 UAE Championship in January and February.

To further mark the team’s commitment to Carrie’s development as a driver, the young German will also be inducted in the Sauber Academy, the development program providing young drivers access to Sauber Motorsport’s expertise and the know-how of over three decades in Formula One.

Beat Zehnder, Sauber Academy Director: “It is a pleasure to welcome Carrie to the team, and we are looking forward to our journey together in F1 Academy. Despite her young age, Carrie already boasts an impressive track record, which shows great race craft and a strong ability to adapt to so many different series. We can’t wait to get started and see what we can build together. With the expertise and the support of our Formula One team, the Sauber Academy, and Campos Racing, entities with decades-long experience in motorsport, we are confident we will achieve great things together.”

Carrie Schreiner, driver: “I am proud to represent this team and the Sauber Academy in F1 Academy this year. After an exciting first season, I’m looking forward to getting back to work. Sauber has an impressive motorsport history and I want to play my part in continuing its success story in F1 Academy. My goal for this season is only one: to win, and to do so flying the flag for the team, while generating more awareness for women in motorsport. F1 Academy is a great platform to realize my ambitions, and I am highly motivated to achieve new milestones with our team and Campos Racing.”

Adrián Campos, Campos Racing Team Principal: “We are delighted to welcome Carrie to the team, and to begin a new collaboration with Sauber. Both our outfits boast vast experience in nurturing and raising the champions of tomorrow, and we cannot wait to get started. Carrie showed great promise in her previous racing experiences, and we are ready to support her as we go for gold in the 2024 F1 Academy season.”
