Inaki Rueda

Formula 1 News: Ferrari to part ways with Rueda

After 10 years, Inaki Rueda will be leaving Ferrari ahead of the 2024 F1 season. Rueda was moved aside and now under Fred Vasseur views his position as a dead-end.

He was the team’s chief strategist from 2015 to 2021, after which he was promoted to the post of sporting director.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has reported that the 45-year-old, despite making loads of controversial strategy decisions, is leaving Ferrari on excellent terms. He was trained as an engineer, not a strategist.

At the start of the 2023 F1 season, he was replaced by Ravin Jain for the post of the sporting director in the Maranello-based outfit.

Rueda will be one of many who have now left the Prancing Horse in recent history. This is part of a major restructuring that is currently underway for the sport’s most successful team.

Vasseur is pressured to make Ferrari a winner again, and he is cleaning house. Although Rueda was not fired, he was put into a dead-end job with the hopes he would eventually leave.

It worked.

More on Rueda’s career here.

Where he will land is anyone’s guess.  We suppose the Andretti-Cadillac team will have openings, and they would love to get as many Ferrari secrets as possible.
