Formula 1 News: Why F1 is the best motorsports series

What makes Formula 1, the best motorsport? In this article, we will look at this very question from different angles.

—Mark Cipolloni–

Very few motorsports can evoke such a thrill as Formula 1. The power this sport has with its strategic battles and thrilling victories is unparalleled.

We’ll cover the key highlights about the sport, and even if you’re not yet a fan yet, at least you will understand why F1 is so spectacular.

Not a ‘Spec’ Series

Whereas in all other motorsports series, a team buys a spec car from a manufacturer and then tweaks it within the rules, Formula 1 is unique in that each team must design, manufacture and build their own cars.

Think this is easy? Think again.

Despite each team designing their own cars, the gap between the fastest cars and the slowest, is relatively small.

F1 teams are bringing new design upgrades just about every race as they push each other to the absolute outer boundaries of engineering ingenuity.

No other race car can touch an F1 car’s performance around a racetrack.  As an example, an F1 car will lap an IndyCar every 6 to 8 laps, despite IndyCars being the 2nd fastest cars around a street or road course in the world.

One partial exception to the ‘spec’ argument is Sports Car racing, which allows each manufacturer to bring their own car design, but then ruin it with Balance of Power (BoP) changes that the governing bodies use to equalize the cars.

This negates any engineering genius a manufacturer may bring. Sports Car racing is analogous to Socialism, where the best are neutered to give the worst a chance.

The Best Drivers in the World

Formula 1’s top drivers are the best in the world. The cream rises to the top as they say, and since F1 teams pay their drivers top salaries, they are not going to waste their money on mediocre drivers.

At lot is at stake in F1, and teams pay the best drivers in the world big salaries to perform.

Either you perform, or you’re out.

If you fail to make it to F1, or you get ejected out due to lack of performance, well, there’s always IndyCar, Sports Cars or Formula E.

The most glamorous and exotic locals

2024 will see the teams travel to 24 venues all around the world – 24 race weekends where engineers try to out-engineer everyone else.

The venues are exotic and exciting – from Monaco, to Las Vegas, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Miami and many more.

The most famous and wealthiest people in the world can be seen attending F1 races. It’s the place to see and be-seen.

F1 ticket prices in the world are much higher than all other forms of motorsports. and they’re all sold out. Fans prefer to pay high prices for the best – it’s analogous to eating Filet Mignon vs. Hot Dogs.

When you attend an F1 race, you know you’re witnessing something special – the best going against the best. It all has an aura that liberates a piece of your soul.

Technologies

With its highly advanced new technologies, there is no way Formula One can fail to qualify as the premier motorsports series in the world. These aerodynamic cars are simply the peak of modern mechanical, aerodynamic, electronic and materials technology.

Many technologies developed in F1 make it down to other forms of motorsports and to passenger cars.

As the cars are continuously improved, they enhance their performance on the track. Precisely crafted from the exotic materials, they are maneuverable and high-speed. The data that is collected during a race helps the engineers and mechanics, and with it, they can see the analyze of the car’s shortcomings against the competitors and improve its performance ahead of the next race.

F1 attracts the best engineers who are paid high salaries to design ‘a better mousetrap.’

Tire wear and temperature is also a factor that needs to be carefully monitored. Getting the tires into the optimum tire temperature range and not over-driving them – causing rapid degradation – is an art that only the very best drivers can master.

The simulators that are used in Formula 1 are high-tech. They provide the track configurations, asphalt grip levels and temperature conditions to test the car and bring the best possible car setup to the racetrack.

Then during the race weekend, the hundreds of sensors on the car collect data during practice that allow teams to run simulations back in the factory on supercomputers to bring the car up to optimum performance ahead of the race.

F1 Pitstops are the fastest in the world – as little as 1.8 seconds – to change four tires, clear debris off radiators and make wing adjustments.  It’s amazing to watch and listen. F1 air guns are such high RPM devices the noise tries to pierce your ear drums.

The emotions

The emotions that fast speeds bring are simply great. The adrenaline of speed has captured the hearts of fans. These machines reach speeds of up to 360 km/h. The acceleration of the cars is enviable.

Showcasing the skills of the drivers is the part that the fans look forward to. They are strategists with incredible talent. The precision and fast reflexes needed to drive these incredible fast cars separates these best drivers from the wankers.

The battles on the track evoke countless emotions in the fans. The on-track rivalries are a waiting moment, and their unfolding creates the magic of the sport. Battles for positions are exciting the best drivers in the world driving the most advanced machinery in the world.

The history

The sport has a long and rich history.  While F1 as a ‘name’ officially began in 1950, in fact grands prix were held well before that.

The best F1 drivers have become legends and many iconic battles. Races such as Monza and Monaco are of great importance. Drivers of the stature of Ayrton Senna and Niki Lauda, as well as new stars like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, have left a huge legacy for the sport.

The sport is marked by teams like Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Renault and McLaren.

In a word, the sport can be described as prestigious – where the best car manufacturers in the world try to show why they can produce better passenger cars than their competitors, piloted by the best drivers in the world.
