NASCAR: 2024 Chicago race deal still not signed
NASCAR and the city of Chicago have not “signed an agreement yet” on the second Chicago Street Race despite the Mayor saying so.
Does a day go by when a politician does not lie?
Mayor Brandon Johnson last week announced a “new and improved deal,” but it’s not signed yet according to Leigh Giangreco of CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS.
A city official said that the city would have “gone public once it finalized negotiations,” but NASCAR “wanted to announce its racing schedule.”
The city official added, “We would have been happy to not have an announcement and to continue working on an agreement there. That announcement was solely based on needing to put something out there in the context of their overall schedule for 2024.”
The official said that the Johnson administration is “still working toward a final agreement” but has commitments from NASCAR to “reimburse the city for costs at future races.” Crain’s Chicago Business / Sports Business Journal
