IndyCar News: Lundgaard tops Practice 2 at Laguna Seca

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Christian Lundgaard turned the fastest lap in Practice 2 for the Firestone GP of Monterey at Laguna Seca Saturday morning.

Lundgaard’s lap of 1m07.6154s bumped Rinus Veekay’s Ed Carpenter Racing Chevy off the top spot by just 0.0392s. Lundgaard was 2nd quick in Practice 1 and appears favored to put his #45 Honda on pole.

Lundgaard and all the drivers expect the Laguna Seca lap record to officially fall in qualifying, although the bright sun is warming the track.

Two-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou was third quick in his #10 Ganassi Honda after locking up the 2023 title last weekend in Portland.

Alexander Rossi was 4th in his #7 Arrow McLaren Chevy while Andretti Autosport ace Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top-5 in his #27 Honda that Rossi drove last year.

The session saw several spins and crashes, including Pato O’Ward who wadded up his #5 Arrow McLaren Chevy, Will Power who spun at the top of the corkscrew and Ryan Hunter-Reay who ran win and into the pea gravel at Turn 10.
