F1: Is it the Red Bull, or is it Verstappen?
–by Mark Cipolloni–
Is it the Red Bull, or is it Verstappen?
For the 5th race in a row, Sergio Perez has not advanced out of Q1 in his #11 Red Bull Honda.
But for the 5th race in a row, Max Verstappen has put that identical Red Bull Honda on pole.
This begs the question – is the Red Bull really a superior car, or is Max Verstappen the one who makes it fly?
In the dry – he’s fast.
When it’s raining – he’s fast.
Rain is the great equalizer, right? It takes the superior car out of the equation, so they say.

When the Mercedes cars were dominating for 8 years, they would typically qualify 1-2 because the car was superior to everything else.
However, we are not seeing that with the Red Bull cars. They seldom qualify 1-2, and I would argue the Red Bull may not be as superior a car as everyone thinks.
Having studied this sport for 60 years, I believe what we are witnessing is the greatest driver of all-time, making everyone think it’s the car.
While the Red Bull is arguably a fast car, none of Max Verstappen’s teammates over the years have been able to make the car do what he does.
So sit back, grab a cold beer, and be happy you are alive to witness arguably the most talented driver to ever get behind the wheel of a race car.
