Rumor has it that IndyCar is eyeing 1 or 2 overseas non-points races in 2024.

Who pays the expensive freight, in a series where money is tight, remains to be seen.

Since no points will be at stake, so what’s the point of going? They are never going to challenge Formula 1 for global dominance.

With F1 getting 70 million TV viewers per race, they will continue to draw all the big sponsor dollars, leaving the crumbs for minnow IndyCar to lick out of the gutter.

IndyCar officials remain coy about the prospect of the series making a landmark return to Australia in the future.

As has been widely reported, the series is evaluating options for a non-championship event in 2024.

Argentina is said to be the leading candidate for that slot at the end of the season, with MotoGP venue Termas de Rio Hondo the top pick.

Not long after the Argentina rumor began to float, talk of Brazil being an option for IndyCar emerged.

However, that rumor has since been dispelled by Penske Entertainment Corp president and CEO Mark Miles with talk an “even more promising prospect” is on the table, according to the Indianapolis Star.

In the report, it’s said IndyCar owner Roger Penske “did not confirm he’d engaged in some level of talks with Australia, to which Miles declined to acknowledge with any more than a sheepish grin.” Nine.com.au
