F1: Will Red Bull crush their competitors with a big upgrade?

–by Mark Cipolloni–

The Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari F1 teams all claim their next upgrades will allow them to challenge Red Bull.

More specifically, they really mean Max Verstappen because they are already faster than the other Red Bull driver – Sergio Perez.

Verstappen is now carrying the Red Bull because Helmut Marko said after the Canadian GP that the Ferrari pace in the race was better than the Red Bulls, and luckily, they started further back.

It appears the other teams bringing upgrades has resulted in the gap to the front reducing.

Red Bull’s Challengers are confident

Such is the apparent confidence within the Mercedes team and the success of their upgrades, one unnamed engineer is quoted as having told Auto Motor und Sport in Germany: “We are just one upgrade away from a win,” with team principal Toto Wolff adding on upgrades there will be “a big one at Silverstone, a smaller one afterwards.”

Mercedes Chief technical officer Mike Elliott said  “As you all know, we brought an upgrade a couple of races ago. We’ve now had a chance to see what that performs like at different circuits.”

Aston Martin says they are bringing upgrades to Austria and even more to Silverstone with the goal of crushing Red Bull.

Diehard fans of Red Bull’s opponents all assume Red Bull will just lay down and allow themselves to be caught

Will Red Bull respond?

Do they still have something in reserve with the existing car that they feel they do not need to bring any more upgrades, as they have enough in hand to hold off the onslaught, or…….

Is Red Bull quietly working on a big upgrade themselves, and rather than blab it to the media, will they show up in Austria or at Silverstone with an upgrade that will demoralize Mercedes, Aston and Ferrari?
