Le Mans Hour 19: Ferrari asserting its authority
There are five hours remaining in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
And the battle for the overall and Hypercar lead between the #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 HYBRID and the #51 Ferrari AF Corse 499P has tightened after a problem in the pits for the leading Ferrari, which was pulling away from the Toyota!
A two-minute stop for the Ferrari because its electronics had to be rebooted, allowed Sebastien Buemi in the #8 Toyota to take the lead!
Once back out on track the Ferrari motored past the Toyota again.
The Ganassi Cadillacs run 3rd and 4th and praying for trouble for the two leaders. Cadillac Racing held steady through the overnight and remains in contention for the overall victory in the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R in the hands of Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook was running third. The sister No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R, co-driven by Sebastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande and Scott Dixon, was running fourth.
LMP2: Inter Europol Competition still leads by over 100 seconds with Fabio Scherer driving the green and yellow #34 Oreca 07-Gibson.
GTE-Am: Iron Dames continue to lead in GTE-Am, Rahel Frey is aboard the #85 Porsche. She’s 22 seconds ahead of Charlie Eastwood’s charging ORT by TF #25 Aston Martin Vantage and the #33 Corvette, which regained its four lost laps.
Garage 56: The NASCAR Camaro has lost 2 laps to the leading GTE-AM cars and dropped down to 36th due to a brake change. “The engine is doing great. The powertrain is looking good. The engine and all of its vitals are meeting what we’ve observed on all our durability runs at ECR in our shop. So right now we’re feeling really good about it. Honestly, other than the off the wall things that you can’t control, we felt really good coming into this race. Especially after all the testing and validation we’ve done. But at this point in time, in the race, we’re feeling really good right now. Anything could still happen, but to be able to get this far. It checks a lot of boxes and we know the product is good. It’s what it should be.” – Scott Meesters, Director of Special Projects, ECR Engines
