F1: Sargeant confident he will keep Williams ride

Ride-buying Williams rookie Logan Sargeant who brings a big check to the Williams team, says his confidence wasn’t dented by his crash in the final practice in Barcelona.

Last month, Williams team boss James Vowles urged Sargeant “to get things under control” after the American’s crash-ridden start to his maiden campaign in F1.

The Williams ride-buyer suffered a crash in FP3 that forced his team to repair his FW45 with little time on its hands before the start of qualifying.

On Sunday, Williams opted to launch Sargeant’s race from the pitlane, the American eventually concluding his day at the tail end of the field, where he almost always finishes.

The qualifying gap to teammate Alex Albon is also a big concern. Sargeant has yet to exhibit the speed necessary to justify him staying in F1, but he has family money and if the check is big enough he could get a 2nd year with the team.
