WEC: Officials will try to cripple Toyota with BoP change (Update)

–by Mark Cipolloni–

As predicted, the WEC was going to hit Toyota with a significant BoP adjustment because they engineered a superior car.

How dare they do that!

Ahead of the Le Mans test day next Wednesday, the Toyota GR010 Hybrid will run 37 kg (81 pounds) heavier than it did during its victories in the second and third rounds of the WEC season at Portimao and Spa-Francorchamps.

The change gives Toyota’s hybrid LMH car a new minimum weight of at 1080 kg, putting it 50 kg heavier than the lightest of the LMHs from Glickenhaus and ByKolles.

The Ferrari 499P has been given a 24 kg weight increase since Spa, while the LMDh-spec Cadillac V-Series.R and Porsche 963 have been tweaked by 11 kg and 3 kg respectively.

The Toyota has an additional 4 MJ to use, while the Ferrari and Cadillac have an extra 2 MJ and 1 MJ respectively. There has been no energy per stint adjustment on the Porsche.

Toyota is so good it is easily dominating the hypercar class in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year, embarrassing their inferior rivals.

So, the FIA has decided to step in like any socialist government would, and penalize the superior effort made by Toyota and help their less intelligent (lower IQ), inferior (less talented) rivals.

#7 Toyota Hypercar

Without naming Toyota by name, here is the FIA bulletin that was put out today:

The first few races of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship season have shown differences between different LMH-spec cars competing in the Hypercar class to be greater than initially anticipated.

Considering these factors, and following an in-depth analysis of available data, the WEC Committee has decided that the goal of ensuring a level playing field within the Hypercar class will be best achieved by implementing correction between, but also within, the LMH and the LMDh platforms.
