Supercars: Will Brown claims Race 12 win
Will Brown has completed another starring weekend by taking his second win in as many days at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint.
The Toowoomba-native beat Coca-Cola Racing teammate and pole sitter Brodie Kostecki off the line and drove a well-managed race to beat Red Bull’s Broc Feeney – winner of Race 11 earlier Sunday afternoon – by 3.9 seconds.
Proclaiming Erebus Motorsport’s 2023 flying form is “not a fluke”, Brown has now strung together five straight podium finishes, three of them being wins, and now sits second in the championship.
Kostecki fended off Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen in a spirited battle for the final podium spot, and holds an 87-point advantage in the championship on his 24-year old team mate.
After crashing out of Race 11 earlier Sunday afternoon, Red Bull Camaro driver van Gisbergen climbed from ninth on the grid to finish fourth in Race 12.
Truck Assist Camaro driver Jack Le Brocq equalled his season-best result with a fifth place finish in another strong weekend for Yatala-based Matt Stone Racing team.
Coming back from an 11th place start, Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert recovered to sixth, and as a result maintains third in the championship through 12 races.
The Repco Supercars Championship next heads north for the Betr Darwin Triple Crown, the championship’s annual Indigenous Round. On-track action at Hidden Valley Raceway takes place June 16-18 in the Northern Territory’s largest sporting event.
