F1: Miami GP announces record attendance, night race being discussed

F1 announced a record weekend attendance of 270,000 here in Miami for the second annual Miami GP.

Attendance is up 30,000 from 240,000 last year after seating capacity was increased by 3,000 per day and General Admission was added that they did not have last year.

“We are sold out,” Miami GP managing partner Tom Garfinkel said. “We probably could have sold 150,000 tickets per day based on the demand and the room we have here, but I want everyone to have a great experience.

“It’s hard to get people in and out, to make sure there aren’t lines and to make sure there is not much traffic and all of those things.

“We want to grow a little bit every year as we operationally get better and better, but we also want to make sure people still have a good experience, so there are enough points of sale, enough bathrooms.

“That was part of the reason we doubled the width of the bridges in anticipating that the attendance could grow a little bit each year in the future, and that we would have capacity for that to be able to do that.”
