F1: Miami GP announces grandstands and suites sold out (Update)

—by Mark Cipolloni—

With the race completely sold out this year, and the partly overcast skies and gusty wind providing relief from the intense Miami sun, race organizers got a lucky blessing from Mother Nature, everything has fallen in place for another great Miami GP.

However, everyone has suffered from the heat this weekend and we have urged that they consider making this a night race.

Well someone is listening

Organizers of the Miami GP say that there are discussions with Formula 1 chiefs about making the event a night race reports Autosport.com

“We’ve had some discussions about potentially doing that,” said managing partner Tom Garfinkel.

“Obviously at this time of year, the weather’s a little unpredictable. This year is pretty nice so far, and the breezes have helped a lot, but last year was unseasonably hot.

“But there’s a lot of factors that go into that [decision to become a night race], with F1 and television and everything else. So, we’ve got to weigh all those things. But we’re certainly open-minded to it.”

The Miami GP says it is now sold out of all grandstand seats, clubs and suites including Paddock Club for this weekend.

General-admission campus passes are still on sale so not a total sellout yet.

They are expecting over 90,000 fans on site for Saturday and Sunday.

However, it is so hot humid and uncomfortable under the intense Miami sun this time of year, fans seek shelter in shaded areas.

The unbearable heat will eventually kill this race unless organizer get their head out of the sand and either make this a night race or move it to a cooler time of year.
