Supercars: LED numbers to make racing debut in Perth

Fans will notice an exciting addition to the Gen3 Ford Mustangs and Chevrolet Camaros when they make their on-track debut in Western Australia next week, with new LED panels to be displayed in all 25 Supercars.

The LED panels will be installed in the front of their cars for next week’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

The panels were tested in the Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro prototypes during demonstration runs at the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 and were deemed successful.

LED Numbers in Windshield

Designed by Motec, the LED panels will initially be used in Perth to display the driver’s track position, meaning that the driver leading the race will have a number 01 displayed, and so forth.

The LED panel will be located on the front windscreen on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, next to the driver’s surname. It will replace the current dayglo sticker numbers.

Sticker numbers will remain on the side windows and rear windscreen.

Supercars Motorsport Operations Manager Paul Martin said: “These panels will allow fans and viewers to easily follow the race and track the progress of their favorite drivers.

“Wanneroo is the perfect venue to showcase this exciting new technology for fans watching the broadcast at home, and importantly, those cheering on their favorite drivers at the circuit.”

The Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint is being broadcast live exclusively on Foxtel and streamed live via Kayo from Friday 28th April until Sunday 30th April. The Seven Network will broadcast highlights on Saturday and Sunday. Check guides for local details.

The Gen3 Supercars will be on track from Friday, when they take part in a 90-minute practice session, followed by Saturday’s qualifying and race and Sunday’s dual qualifying and dual races.
