NASCAR: 7 Cup drivers doing double duty at COTA

Seven Cup drivers will do double-duty this weekend at Circuit of the Americas to brush up on their rusty road racing skills.

Four Cup drivers are entered in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race :

  1. Aric Almirola (No. 08 SS Green Light Racing)
  2. AJ Allmendinger (No. 10 Kaulig Racing)
  3. William Byron (No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports)
  4. Ty Gibbs (No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing)

Three Cup drivers are entered in Saturday’s Craftsman Truck Series race:

  1. Alex Bowman (No. 7 Spire Motorsports)
  2. Ross Chastain (No. 41 Niece Motorsports)
  3. Kyle Busch (No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports)

Some open wheel road racing specialists are entered, but they have almost no NASCAR experience, and two of them raced open wheel cars all their life.  Hence, do not expect them to light the world on fire.

Imagine a NASCAR Cup driver in an F1 car! Ouch. We saw how Jimmie Johnson did in IndyCar – not so good.

  1. Jordan Taylor (No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports)
  2. Jenson Button (No. 15 Rick Ware Racing)
  3. Kimi Raikkonen (No. 91 Trackhouse Racing)
