IndyCar: Vips to replace injured Harvey in RLL car at Barber Test (Update)

Harvey has confirmed he sprained his wrists in the GP of St.Petersburg crash.

Kyle Kirkwood went airborne during the race and sailed directly over Harvey’s head. Rinus VeeKay had slid into a tire barrier, Harvey ran into the back of VeeKay and Kirkwood launched over both cars.

“I really couldn’t avoid Rinus and then just had a little bit of pain in both wrists when I was trying to get out of the car. Physically, I’d say it was a tough race but I felt great,” Harvey told the AP.

IndyCar next races on April 2 at Texas Motor Speedway. Harvey will be evaluated again before the race.

–Press Release–

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is testing with three race cars today at Barber Motorsports Park. On Friday, March 10, Jack Harvey was evaluated by the INDYCAR medical team after being involved in a multi-car incident in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 5, and was not cleared to participate in the test.

Harvey will be evaluated again prior to making his return to competition at the PPG 375 at Texas Motor Speedway on April 2.

Juri Vips (Shown above), who tested with the team at Sebring International Raceway on Oct. 12, 2022, will participate in the test today in the No. 30 entry.

Editor’s Note: It’s a big secret what the extent of Harvey’s injuries were as a result of a big accident at the GP of St. Petersburg.  Harvey appeared shaken when he got out of the car. There was never a statement put out from IndyCar after Harvey was transported to the hospital, but Harvey posted on Twitter: “I’m all good. Nothing a little ice and a cold beer won’t fix.” From this, we gather he sprained his wrist.
