WEC: The Prologue at Sebring starts today
The highly-anticipated FIA WEC season will get underway with its pre-season test (The Prologue) this weekend at the Sebring International Raceway (11-12 March).
The 11th season of the WEC will feature nine global manufacturers highlighting the continued growth of the world’s premier international sportscar championship. The introduction of the Hypercar class has also seen multiple manufacturers (Cadillac, Ferrari, Glickenhaus, Peugeot, Porsche, Toyota and Vanwall) pledging their support to the series.
Saturday will mark the very first time that the aforementioned Hypercars are on track together, with a three hour test session scheduled for the morning (08:45 – 10:45 local time) followed by a second one in the afternoon (13:30 – 16:30). Sunday will see two further test sessions (09:00 12:30 and 14:30 – 17:30).
Next week’s race action for the 1000 Miles of Sebring – round one of FIA WEC – will start with FP1 and FP2 on Wednesday (15 March). FP3 takes place on Thursday 16 March before qualifying from 18:30 local time later that day. Friday’s race will commence at 12:00 midday local time.
Balance of Power Set for Hypercar Class
The FIA and ACO have revealed the Balance of Performance for the opening round of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship season at Sebring next Friday.
It’s a huge moment for all concerned both in the teams and manufacturers, and the rule makers and their technical teams. The rule makers have opted to set two separate BoP tables, the first for the Sebring season-opener and the second, designed to see the WEC through the start of the European season and into the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours.
The values below will be fixed both for the Prologue test this weekend and for the race proper next Friday.

Porsche – 1048 kilos (2,310 lbs)

Glickenhaus – 520 kilowatts (697 hp)
Peugeot – 518 kilowatts (695 hp)
Porsche – 517 kilowatts (693 hp)
Toyota – 517 kilowatts (693 hp)
‘Vanwall’ – 511 kilowatts (685 hp)

The minimum hybrid deployment speed for the three four-wheel drive LMH cars is also defined with the Toyota and Ferrari cars set at 190 km/h, the Peugeot, at 150 km/h due to the French car being equipped with 31″ wide tires at the front and rear, with the Toyota and Ferrari fitted with 29″ at the front and 34 at the rear.
There are (very) minor differences too in the fuel docking times across the varying groups of cars. The non-hybrid LMHs have a base minimum fuel connection time with the two LMDh cars required to dock for an additional second and the hybrid LMHs for 1.2 seconds.
