Rolex 24 Hour 12: Pagenaud out front as #60 Acura leads at halfway mark
The caution flag flew just 3 minutes before the halfway mark and Simon Pagenaud, behind the wheel of the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura, led the Rolex 24 IMSA race at Daytona as all the teams scrambled to get ready to take a pitstop.
Alexander Sims ran 2nd in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac while Louis Deletraz was 3rd in the #10 Wayne Taylor/Andretti Acura.
The #6 Penske Porsche with Dane Cameron behind the wheel ran 4th as the #60 Acura continues to set a blistering pace out front.
Scott Dixon rounded out the top-5 in the #01 Ganassi Cadillac and was the last car on the lead lap.
The #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca was trading the lead with the #55 Oreca of James Allen in LMP2
The #33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier leads in LMP3
Ross Gunn led at the halfway mark in the No. 23 The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3. in GTD Pro.
The Aston had been battling with the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R GTD, but a shredded right-rear tire forced Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor to perform a costly slow lap of Daytona International Speedway.
The GTD leader on 12 hours was the Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG.
No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 has withdrawn from the 61st annual IMSA Rolex 24 At Daytona race due to floorboard damage caused by an earlier incident.
The No. 62 Ferrari was sent to the garage just before 11:00 p.m. when Pier Guidi complained about a vibration after being hit by a GTD car.
The Risi Competizione crew immediately went to work on diagnosing and addressing the issue. The mechanics removed the flooring, discovering several broken screws on the floor, and the entire floor was replaced. The car, with Pier Guidi back behind the wheel, was then sent back into the race. Unfortunately, the problem was great enough that the decision to withdraw was made just after the 12-hour mark.
