F1: We predict what the 2024 F1 schedule will likely look like (5th Update)
We can now confirm that the dates below in our 2024 F1 calendar are correct for Bahrain and Saudi Arabia – they will be Saturday night events.
–Press Release–
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (5th July 2023) –The Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC) has today welcomed the announcement that the FORMULA 1 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX will be returning to Jeddah, home of the world’s fastest street circuit, on 7th-9th March 2024. The pinnacle of motorsport’s fourth visit to Saudi Arabia will see a change to its previous weekend format, with the Grand Prix taking place on Saturday night in order to avoid a potential clash with the start of the holy month of Ramadan, which is scheduled to begin the following week.
Today’s announcement was made as part of the provisional release of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar, meaning the Jeddah race weekend will once again be the second of the season, when the championship will be wide open and all to play for under the lights on the shore of the magnificent Red Sea!
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit has quickly established itself as one of the most exhilarating tracks on the F1 calendar, making Formula 1’s highly anticipated return to Saudi Arabia on the weekend of March 7th -9th, 2024 one that F1 fans will be eagerly marking on their calendars.
Audiences will once more be able to watch the world’s greatest drivers take on the thrilling Jeddah Corniche Circuit – the fastest and longest street circuit in the world – as they go wheel to wheel at average speeds of up to 252km/h.
Last year’s visit of F1 to Jeddah proved to be another spectacular occasion, which saw Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez cross the finish line after 50 thrilling laps around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit to win In front of a bumper crowd of over 140,000 spectators. In doing so, he ensured that to date there has been a different winner in Jeddah every race. Will we see another new name added to the list next year?
The fun won’t stop on the racetrack as the F1 weekend in Jeddah will once again be delivering another incredible line up of live music concerts by some of the biggest acts in the world.
HRH Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and the Saudi Motorsport Company, commented on today’s news: “Everyone at the Saudi Motorsport Company and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation is thrilled to welcome F1 back to Jeddah for the fourth edition of the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix next March 7th – 9th. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit continues to prove itself to be one of the most exciting and challenging tracks on the F1 calendar, with our previous three races serving up consistently excellent, adrenaline fuelled racing. Beyond the action on track, we are working hard to deliver another three days of non-stop entertainment for the whole family with some of the biggest names in music expected to return to our Main Stage once again. The Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is an event that caters for everyone and we can’t wait to welcome F1 teams, drivers, and fans back to Jeddah once more in 2024!”

As we get more information about the 2024 F1 Calendar, we continue to provide updates.
Joe Saward writes the following in his latest Green Notebook, and as a result, the rumored schedule has been revised again.
“The big thing that no-one has talked about yet [for 2024] is that the first two races of the year will be held on Saturday nights, rather than on the Sunday afternoons. This makes a lot of sense for the local organizers as in the Islamic world the “weekend” usually means Friday and Saturday, rather than the Western Saturday-Sunday.
“In the Arab world Sunday is a working day. The change is not due to this, however, but rather because of Ramadan, which is the period of religious devotion that makes it incompatible with Formula 1 racing.
“Ramadan begins on Sunday March 10 and so the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has to be on the evening of Saturday, March 9, and in order to get everything moved in the limited time available, the Bahrain GP will move forward a day to Saturday, March 2. This will follow the pre-season tests at the Bahrain International Circuit over the last weekend of February.

On this week’s On the Grid Podcast, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the 2024 F1 schedule will have 24 races.
With Vietnam and South Africa now off the table for 2024, we make our best guess for the 2024 calendar once again, taking into account Ramadan.
The Saudi Arabia race will need to move, and it has already been announced that it will be the opening race in 2024.
Because Saudi Arabia will open the season, pre-season testing is also expected to move to Jeddah in 2024 and be a week earlier than this year.
Japan has been rumored to move to the sprint to pair with Shanghai. We still have Canada in June because the weather in May in Montreal is just too cold. Late May may work if they move Miami to late May and make it a night race due to the heat.

With rumors that the Vietnam GP may make the 2024 F1 calendar, the series will have 25 races in 2024, not 24.
We take a stab at what a 25-race 2024 calendar could look like if Vietnam gets added. Before the race was cancelled, it was scheduled as an April race; hence we will assume the same now.

Latest rumors have Liberty Media wanting to start 2024 in Saudi Arabia just before Ramadan, on March 3, with pre-season, at the end of February in Bahrain. Ramadan 2024 is the evening of March 10th until sundown on April 8th.
After that, they would continue with two doubleheaders, Australia-Singapore and then China-Japan. We hear Singapore is resisting this move over a concern with ticket renewals by moving from its traditional date.
Then the Bahrain GP later in the year paired with Baku and Qatar.
All this to regionalize the schedule more and reduce F1’s carbon footprint.
With that in mind, here is how we hope it will play out, as we feel it makes much more sense.

The 2024 F1 schedule is likely to include at least 24 races with China hopefully past its Covid crisis by then.
Ramadan moves to the earlier dates of March 10 to April 9, 2024. Obviously, because of the sanctity of Ramadan it would be impossible to host a Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia or Bahrain during that time.
The Saudi Arabia race will need to move and it has already been announced that it will be the opening race in 2024.
Because Saudi Arabia will open the season, pre-season testing is also expected to move to Jeddah in 2024 and be a week earlier than this year.
