Formula E: Turvey takes reserve, sporting advisor role at DS Penske FE squad

On the eve of Formula E testing in Valencia this week, DS PENSKE announced that Oliver Turvey would be staying in Formula E as Reserve Driver and Sporting Advisor, having left long-time team NIO 333 at the end of Season 8.

Turvey, one of the most experienced heads in Formula E, with 90 races under his belt placing him sixth on the all-time table for entries, will join double champion Jean-Eric Vergne and reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne in pushing the team’s all-new DS E-TENSE FE23 forward at pace.

Gen3 gets underway this week with testing in Valencia, and every team will be looking for any advantage they can get a hold of. Having been around from Gen1 and Season 1 all the way through to Gen3, Turvey brings “immense experience” to the table and DS AUTOMOBILES feel he adds considerable weight and know-how to an already strong line-up.

“Over the last few months we have been working hard to set up our DS E-TENSE FE23,” says Eugenio Franzetti, Director of DS Performance. “The development of this third-generation Formula E car has required a lot of commitment from each and every person in the team, concentrating on the smallest details.

“The tests in Valencia are consequently crucial, as we will see where we stack up against the other teams for the very first time! Furthermore, we are delighted to welcome Oliver Turvey as Reserve Driver and Sporting Advisor. His huge experience in Formula E is set to reinforce what is already a super line-up within our team.”

“Oliver not only brings incredible credentials to the team, but an acute racing intellect,” says Jay Penske, owner and Team Principal of DS PENSKE on a driver considered by many to be among the most talented and underrated in the paddock. “He has all the qualities we were looking for with this role. He is experienced and has demonstrated his racecraft throughout the last seasons. We look forward to working with Oliver in Season 9 and beyond.”

“I am delighted to be joining DS Penske as Reserve Driver and Sporting Advisor,” says Turvey. “It is a real privilege to join a championship-winning team and one of the most successful manufacturers in Formula E history. I am looking forward to working closely with both JEV, Stoffel, and the whole team, using my experience in the series to help them challenge for another championship at the beginning of the Gen3 era.”
